October 2020
At our October meeting Covid 19 rules were adhered to as best as possible. It was a small but committed group sharing stories of quilts and other items special to them.
Show & Tell
Dawn completed her mini quilt for the CQI archives. It was made with suffix puffs that were given to her from each member of CQI for her birthday many years ago. The other quilt was made with fabric bought in Japan 2009.
Sue O showed a quilt she made at a Margaret George workshop in 2007 at the mountains. This style was out of her comfort zone.
Annie made decorations for a baby shower for a teacher at her school. She also completed an embroidery in her favourite colour purple and made it into a mini quilt with the backing fabric has the wording ”Annie” printed on it and also a block for Val Richardson who loved pansy flowers – both these mini quilts are for the CQI archives.
Julie-Ann showed a lap quilt made for mother’s 75th birthday to keep her legs warm as she sat in wheel chair. She also made a Monica Poole designed back pack using cork fabric. She is also participating in the Sue Spargo ”Squash Squad” – 9 week sew along.
Sue P first sampler quilt hand quilted 30 years ago
Bronwyn talked about the Butterfly quilt challenge to make a quilt with butterflies in 1989 – at the 25th anniversary she remade it into a mini wall hanging- then decorated the butterflies with beads at beading workshop then finally made it into the current quilt.
Bronwyn’s friend Pamela made quilts for the Community Women’s Refuge project that CQI supports.
Janice is working on a hexagon quilt and children’s appliqué quilt for her grand daughter’s baby hope chest.
Lorraine showed us a tiny pill box she bought in small shop in paris about 2011 on family holiday.
Liz’s tablecloth that her grandmother and the Red Cross ladies embroidered during the war in Wagga Wagga and also showed embroidered doilies.
Kim made a flower girl dress in silk for her daughter when she was 4 years old with a garden of embroidered flowers across back of dress. This was the last time her whole family was together – this was 26 years ago.
Embroidered Hearts were sent out in the post to members who can’t come to CQI meetings.
