September 2024
The meeting opened by our own “Fairy Godmother” Annie, who dressed perfectly for the occasion in a costume she made herself to wear for “Book Week” at school.
Sue Pilgrim presented her demonstration of the bunny rug construction. We all enjoyed her marvellous instruction, and we will finish them at home and hopefully we will have a very colourful Show and Tell next month! Thanks again Sue for volunteering to present and for the comprehensive notes.
Show and Tell
Lynne made some gorgeous Christmas decorations for Marks work colleagues. She used the fabric a lot of us purchased from 60stitches.
Jill finished the creations she was working on at the retreat. They were inspired by tumbling cubes and stack and whack blocks. She had also made an elf decoration for the Christmas Tree. Her other news was the birth of 3 baby alpacas.
Carmel showed a beautiful Sashiko embroidered lady she has completed.
Viive spent a week camping in Cape Range National Park and went kayaking and snorkelling in Ningaloo Marine Park, Exmouth, Western Australia. Each day the group kayaked 5-9km, stopping for meal breaks on beautiful beaches and to snorkel the best spots in the reef that abounds in turtles, stingrays and tropical fish.
Sue Pilgrim has also returned from a completely different type of holiday, being in the red dirt of Mundi Mundi at a music festival. She had a wonderful time joining friends for a trip following the Darling River, visiting Wilcannia, Louth, Bourke and Tilpa. Sue and Peter have bought a new camper to travel around the countryside. There were lots of goats and kangaroos of course and visiting Louth was a highlight. The town of 70 increases to over 6000 in music festival time and the school (7 children only) of course made a killing holding the fete!
Annie had purple day at school ( not so hard for her to wear purple) and showed a purple flower brooch she had made for the occasion. She also showed a peg bag apron that belonged to her mother that was very reminiscent of what we all used to use (some still do) to hang the washing!
Kim brought along an exquisite quilt she had made with a pattern that was designed by Joyce Lundrigan. The quilt patterns are made especially for the pieced designs.
Bronwyn brought along 4 quilts made by Pamela Ross. This very generous lady makes entire quilts to add to our donation for The Sanctuary. She donates everything, the fabric, the batting, the quilting and all her time in making these lovely quilts. I am sure the recipients would love every quilt she has donated over the years and will cherish them the rest of their lives. We thank her for her very significant contributions to our own efforts.
Janice had 2 quilts to show, not bound yet. One a baby quilt, and the other a beautiful handmade hexagon quilt.
