December 2023
Oh what a Night!
Thanks to every member who attended for ensuring the Christmas Party was a wonderful night! We are sorry Janice and Chris could not attend. Maybe next year we can enjoy your company. We aren’t sorry about Anne Curry, as we know she is touring Norway to see the Northern Lights! I hope there are some good pictures to accompany the travel anecdotes.
A special mention to Viive and Annie for their amazing organising ability and help on the night.
Thank you to all participants in the Marjorie Horwood and Margaret Goldman Awards. There were plenty of entries to choose from this year, and the winners were rewarded for their magnificent efforts. The quality of the entries shows how we are all capable of inspiring work. Hopefully these awards will be presented at the February 14th 2024 meeting.
Karen Matthews won the Marjorie Horwood Award.
Julie-Ann Walker the Margaret Goldman Award.
The food provided on the night was outstanding! From the first bite of pastizzi to last spoonful of the trifle desert, the food kept coming and we kept eating. It was all delicious and nutritious.
The Christmas gift giving got off with a “bang” as we pricked balloons to receive a number to match a gift. A couple of mishaps and lost numbers but no blood was shed. Everyone provided such great gifts, and all were gratefully received. Thanks for putting in such thought to your gifts, it makes the night special to go home with a memento from the occasion.
Dawn was presented with a token of our appreciation for all the hard work she has done and continues to do for CQI. She is a treasure behind the scenes, always volunteering to help out wherever she can.
Bronwyn had a Show and Tell item that was an exquisite cross stitch started by Margaret Mahoney (an early CQI member and long passed away) and she had made her mission to complete it. Bronwyn also brought along 3 more complete quilts for the Women’s refuge from Pamela Ross. It is a very generous donation to kick off our 2024 quilt campaign.
Dawn ran a wonderful Christmas raffle again and the big prize won by Lorraine. Congratulations to Lorraine and the other winners of the “Fun” prizes.
I hope everyone arrived home safe and sound because there was an horrendous storm around 10:30pm which made driving a bit frightening.
