September 2016
Kathy Doughty was our guest speaker this month. She talked about her quilting journey, the process of writing her books and designing her fabric ranges.
She explained that even though we all know the basics of quilting and making quilts, what is new is the way we can push our imaginations to the limit.
Kathy showed us her latest book “Mixing Quilt Elements”. She explained that she wants us to learn to express ourselves with creative, adventurous designs. Use techniques we might not have tried, like English paper piecing, raw-edge machine applique, and improvisational piecing. She also gave us a glimpse into her eclectic fabric pairings and signature style, empowering us to develop our own style of quilting.
Kathy talked us through her “show and tell”, explaining the techniques she used and why she used different elements in different positions.
Kathy also brought along a selection of goods from her shop Material Obsession and we were then given the opportunity for retail therapy.
BOM Program
We had lots of members bring along their completed blocks. They are all looking completely different as we are all using varied techniques and colour pallets.
